William Shatner

William Shatner has been a Hollywood icon since his long-standing role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek and has had plenty of other major roles since then. But did you know that he also did a stint as a game show host?

In 2006 he was the host of Show Me the Money, a game show where players answer open-ended trivia questions to win cash. Only five episodes aired before the show was canceled due to poor ratings, and most people never even knew about this major icon’s brief period of playing the host.

Sherri Shepherd

Mainly known for her position as co-host on the daytime talk show The View, Sherri Shepherd also landed herself a gig as the host on the popular game show The Newlywed Game.

She hosted the show from 2010 to 2013, but her performance fell short with viewers. She had been stepping into the shoes of the previous host, Bob Eubanks, who seemed to outshine her in audience ratings.

Drew Carey

When Drew Carey took over as the host of The Price is Right, he had already made a pretty big name for himself in the world of television. The game show has been highly popular since its debut in the ‘70s and is still airing today.

While Carey’s performance is liked by many viewers, there were also those that stopped watching when he took over the position that was previously filled by Bob Barker.

Johnny Gilbert

Johnny Gilbert is a television personality who has appeared on many different game shows throughout the years. His five-year role as host of Supermarket Sweep in the early ’90s, however, has got to be one of his greatest roles.

Supermarket Sweep ran from 1965 all the way up until 2003 before ending, but the show gained so much popularity that in 2020, producers decided to reboot the show. The revival follows the traditional gameplay while incorporating more modern technology into the rules, really adding to the supermarket experience!

Alex Trebek

We couldn’t make a list of some of the greatest game show hosts without mentioning Alex Trebek. He hosted the ever-popular trivia game show Jeopardy! For 37 seasons until his untimely death in 2020.

Alex Trebek has become a much-loved icon of the game show world and hosted many other shows like High Rollers, Double Dare, and The Wizard of Odds during his lifetime.
